Blackout accepts PNG, JPG, WEBP, and GIF screenshots, and always exports the redacted result as a PNG.
What's the difference between pixelating, blurring, and a black bar?
Pixelating replaces the selected area with a coarse mosaic of large, flat-colored blocks, which is the most reliable way to make text truly unreadable. Blurring softens the area instead, hiding fine detail while keeping a sense of what was there. A black bar simply covers the area completely.
Can I redact more than one thing in a screenshot?
Yes — draw as many rectangles or brush strokes as you need. You can undo the last one, clear everything, or click any earlier redaction to reselect and adjust its settings.
